Endoscopes have made minimally invasive ear surgery possible with very good clinical outcomes. Dr Barrie Tan was one of the earliest surgeons in Singapore to offer this form of surgery.
Bone conduction implants (BAHA) are a different class of surgical hearing implants that help those with conductive or mixed hearing loss, or single-sided deafness.

Dr Barrie Tan is a dedicated otolaryngologist with more than 20 years of experience, with a keen focus on hearing loss and cochlear implants. Before setting up his own practice, Dr Tan was the Head of the ENT Department at the Singapore General Hospital (SGH), the largest ENT department in Singapore, and the Director of the Centre for Hearing and Ear Implants at SGH. Dr Tan was a President’s Scholar and completed his subspeciality Fellowship in Otology, Hearing Implant, Neurotology and Skull Base Surgery at the Ear Science Institute in Australia.
Today, Dr Tan remains actively involved in the Singapore ENT fraternity, holding several leadership positions, nurturing the next generation of ENT surgeons. He has organised numerous conferences about otolaryngology in Singapore and abroad, and continues to devote his time to meaningful volunteer work and medical missions.
